OCTOBER 2020 NEWSLETTER
Yet another great turn-out of the artistic and green fingered South Invercargill families. Thank you to everyone that entered and volunteered their time to help out with setting up and running of the day. Many hands make light work!

The ICC Portable Playground was a huge hit with the kids, however, Mother Nature didnt play ball (yes that is snow in the background !) and we only had a few days of fine weather, regardless, the cold wasn't keeping these 10 year olds away.

Food Secure Communities Project

The government and communities recognise that food security is a big issue for people after COVID-19 lockdown.What is food security?  It is having access to affordable, nutritious, sustainable and culturally appropriate food. 
South Alive has successfully applied for funding from MSD for 2 years to develop and implement a Food Secure Community plan for South Invercargill. 

We will talk to our community and get other advice as we aim to develop a long term sustainable food security for South Invercargill.  Julz will talk about this at the urban garden workshop in November, but as always, come in for a chat or email your ideas on how to address food security.
 

Thank you to all those who attended our public meeting on 18 October 2020; some great ideas were shared to ensure we keep moving forward. Our South Alive Annual Wellbeing Survey is now available, please fill one out at The Pod, The Pantry, or during the 2020 South City Street Party.
 

THANK YOU BALLANCE AGRI-NUTRIENTS FOR YOUR DONATION

We are extremely thankful to have received a donation from Ballance due to the whole team achieving their health and safety targets in August . We have chosen to purchase some beautiful trees and plants to beautify our Ness Street fence line.

This is just one of the plants called Laurus Nobilis which will grow large and form an archway for the footpath.
