SOUTH Alive is abuzz, encouraging people to be involved in community activities and hosting various community groups.
Julz Orr took over the position of community development and operational manager in early May and will co-ordinate the various events and the two community rooms, Kewa and Paikea at The Pod.
‘‘I am covering the position while [the previous manager] Courtney Ellison is on maternity leave until December.’’
Ms Orr also works part-time at Public Health South as a health promotion adviser in nutrition and physical activity.
‘‘In this role at Public Health South, I used the rooms at The Pod for meetings and The Pantry for cooking classes, and also submissions to [Invercargill City] council to advocate for the prioritisation of health where we live, work and play.’’
Ms Orr said the two roles would work together ‘‘nicely’’ and she looked forward to working more closely with the South Invercargill community, supporting projects and events in the area.
The Pod, at the rear of The Pantry on Grace St, South Invercargill, was available again for social, community or business meetings.
‘‘Regular groups, such as the book club and knitting group were meeting again, and we will be hosting free mindfulness and mediation workshops, as well as a South Invercargill business catch-up towards the end of June.’’
Ms Orr said the South Alive action groups, including beautification, housing, events and promotion were planning to resume again.
‘‘These are a great way to get involved with your community.’’
