Who We Are
South Alive is an urban rejuvenation project, led by the community, with the goal of identifying the best possible future for South Invercargill and ways to make it happen.
It was established in 2012 with a small steering group, which then held a public meeting in April 2012 to generate ideas and decide priorities. Action teams of volunteers formed around each of the priority areas, and have been working since then to develop and implement projects.

We had a wonderful evening kicking off Youth Week, with our first of two, FULLY booked out, 'cooking with connections' ~ Rangatahi cooking class!
The rōpū learnt about the importance of karakia kai, nutrious options, foraging locally, they all shared kōrero around transport insights and then got stuck into The Pantry Invercargill 's beautiful kitchen and cooked 2 main dishes, then sat altogether to eat. 🍽
They also took home a bag of goodies to continue their learning and cook with their whānau.
A massive ngā mihi to Stacey - our Rangatahi Lead, Julz - our Projects Manager and Steve, Courtney & Laura from Healthy Families Invercargill for supporting this kaupapa.
An even bigger 'round of applause for the young people for showing up 👏
Night 2 tomorrow - then watch this space for more classes being offered around August.

Ākonga from Aurora College came and hung out at South Alive this week, in a 3 day block course hosted by Front-Line Training, to study & attain their Learner Licenses 🚗
They shared beautiful kai, with a HUGE thanks to The Pantry, who provided morning tea & lunches over the duration of the course 🫶
We love collaborating with other local organisations to see our Rangatahi succeed in spaces without any barriers!
